Give and Give?

Yesterday was full, full of prompts on taking responsibility and going the extra mile and paying attention.

It gets so easy to forget just how priviledged I am, Its so easy to think that just because I need a new car, my life is not all that; forgetting the millions of people who can't dream of being driven in a car not to mention owning one.

Its so easy to fuss about the capabilities of my latest smart phone and how I want it to browse faster, have more memory or download more apps forgetting that there are children lost in this world wondering how to connect with their families.

I feel its so unfair to have so many people suffering, I also however, feel it serves as a huge opportunity to show just how large the human heart is and can be.

I only pray that I will see the opportunities to give when the come because they do come to us and often too...

My Easter holiday this year started on the eve of Good Friday after a brief stint at the office. I went shopping for some equipments with a friend (a gadget freak) and went home to test them out. Saturday was exhausting! I went shopping for grocerries, provisions and household appliances, saw a boring movie in the cinemas and got home exhausted. Sunday was fun, went to church, rearranged my kitchen, watched a movie (Cinema style, surround sound, big screen, snacks and drinks) and lazed around the house. A Pimple Lesson

Last night while "admiring" the spots on my face, I was struck with how impatience teaches us patience. Let me explain. I am light skinned and from time to time because of junk food, stress or hormonal changes, I break out (i.e. I get Pimples). Now, I absolutely hate those tiny imperfections on my otherwise gorgeous face but I know that picking at them will leave a little red blotch which will turn to a dark spot and then take forever to fade. But what do I do? I pick at them anyway, till they are bleeding and sore. After a day or so, I notice the dark spot and begin sending up silent prayers before my vanity mirror for the spots to fade. With a little patience, the pimple typically, would have dried up and disappeared on its own but impatience leaves me with spots and scars. Jerkazoid is a word you wont find in any dictionary at least not yet, but it is a word I created to describe guys who are extremely talented at being jerks, so much so that it seems like a super power or mutant ability. Spotting a Jerkazoid is an essential step for any female who is dating or planning to date. It is the first step to dodging the bullet of an abusive relationship.   Just so we are on the same page, in my books and a lot of other books, an abusive relationship, is one in which the man physically and/or psychologically hurts or seeks to hurt a woman. Unfortunately, our culture as Africans generally and Nigerians specifically, condones a number of things and downplays abuse in relationships but that doesn't change the fact that what is wrong is wrong regardless of what culture says....
